Review: Locket – Money from your phone

How many times do you grab your phone a day?  Now imagine if you got paid every time you unlocked your phone?  The folks at Locket Inc have developed “locket”, an app that pays you to display an ad on the homescreen of your phone. The app is currently only available in the Google Play store, and it’s free.  So here’s how it works:

  1. Download the app to your phone
  2. Create your account (you can use your Facebook or Twitter creds to sign up)
  3. Set up your Paypal – they pay you via PayPal
  4. Make money.

No, really, it’s that simple.  they pay you 1¢ for every ad they display on your home’s lock screen.  You don’t even have to click on the ad, they’ll pay you regardless just for showing it to you.

We all know that everything that we do is driven by advertising at some level.  By paying you to display ads, this company is hyper-targeting the ads in a way that ensures that they will at least be seen.  We all see those ads in your favorite game or app, but you don’t really even notice it.  By having it on your phone’s lock screen you’re guaranteed to see it every single time you touch your phone.  The twist here is that you’re being paid for that split second of your time.

Here’s some simple math to help you understand how this’ll help you out.  If you grab your phone on average 50 times a day you’ll earn 50¢ a day, or $15 dollars a month…..for doing something you already do.  Now it’s not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, but you can think of it as a way to reduce your cell phone bill.  From an advertiser’s point of view, it’s a small price to pay to get your product in front of someone 1500 times.  If I show you a picture of a goat 1500 times in a month, you’re gonna remember that goat.
